The 2023 Sport for Life Summit will take place in Prince George on April 14 and 15 at the Northern Sport Centre.
The summit's theme, Thriving Through Changing Times, will focus on the challenges and opportunities of a post-pandemic world and how we have evolved in the sport sector to meet current needs.
The summit is tailored to the Northern BC sport community, and participation in the summit is free, thanks to funding from the Government of Canada. Participants are encouraged to register by April 12 to secure their spot.
"The summit promises to be an event to remember, with exciting virtual keynote speakers, Olympian Haley Wickenheiser and TSN Broadcaster Faran Lalji, sharing their message and engaging presenters from across Northern British Columbia," says Mandi Graham, Executive Director of Engage Sport North.
Wickenheiser is the longest serving member of Canada’s National Women’s Team and competed in the first five Olympic Games in which women’s hockey was included, winning four gold and one silver medals to make her one of Canada’s most decorated Olympians.
While Lalji is a Vancouver-based sports reporter and the Vancouver Bureau Reporter for TSN's SportsCentre.
"Part of the summit will be dedicated to learning and discussing how we can help to remove barriers in the sports community in Northern BC for newcomers to Canada. I hope that the summit will serve as a catalyst for organizations (both sport and non-sport) across Northern BC who work or engage with people new to Canada."
The summit is a partnership between Sport for Life and Engage Sport North and coaches, athletes and volunteers in the community are encouraged to attend the free event.
Registration for the summit is available on Engage Sport North’s website.
