Tom Richter’s time in the northern capital has come to a close after just one season.
The American forward has been traded from the Prince George Spruce Kings to the Cowichan Valley Capitals after posting 10 points in his BCHL rookie campaign, including two goals and eight assists.
Those points were accumulated over a 56-game span, and was one of nine players from the roster to play 50 games or more in 2019-20.
“Tom is a great person and teammate and just got caught up in a numbers game and being a 20-year-old player and an import player,” said Prince George General Manager Mike Hawes in a team statement.
“I am happy that we were able to find a good spot for Tom. We wish him good luck in Cowichan this upcoming season.”
In exchange for Richter, the Spruce Kings are receiving future considerations from the Capitals.
Tom is the son of former NHL goaltender Mike Richter, who won the Stanley Cup in 1994 with the New York Rangers.
He is also committed to playing at Union College in NCAA Division One Hockey for the 2021-22 season.
