Two people were arrested earlier this month after refusing to comply with police in a case of a potential stolen vehicle.
In attempting to flee, they collided with a Prince George RCMP vehicle, causing minor injuries to one officer, were eventually arrested after ignoring demands to step out of the vehicle and multiple charges are now being considered.
According to spokesperson Cst. Jennifer Cooper, the incident took place around 1 a.m. on Feb. 18 in a parking lot at the corner of Central Street West and 15 Avenue.
Officers were notified of a possible stolen vehicle and activated its emergency lights and sirens, causing the suspects to try and leave the scene and crash into an RCMP cruiser.
Others surrounded the suspects inside and after they refused to get out, Mounties deployed an energy weapon to 'gain control of the situation.'
The driver and passenger were eventually taken into custody and after searching the potential stolen vehicle, police found a machete and a disguised conducted energy weapon within reach of the driver.
As a result, multiple charges are being considered for the B.C. Prosecution Service, including:
- Flight from Police
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Resist Arrest
- Possession of a Weapon
The incident remains under investigation and the suspects were taken to court later that morning.
The officer who suffered minor injuries was cleared by Emergency Health Services.
